Do I need to buy TurboTax software each year or just update what I bought last year? Thanks!

Ryan, If you purchased a disc (or download) version of TurboTax last year, then you will probably need to purchase an updated version this year. But, it all depends on your tax situation. You may be able to use their free version online, depending on your income last year. If you filed your taxes through TurboTax's website last year, then you can simply do so again this year and import your information from last year into this year's return. Does this answer your question? Thank you thats what I needed to know! Would you recommend the free online version for someone who was self-employed last year? Or is that even possible to do?

I don't think you can use the free online version to file your taxes with TurboTax, if you were self employed last year. On the tax-compare.com home page, there is a link you can press that says "What's my price" and you can click the various options, one of which is "I am self employed or a small business owner." Check your options, and the gird will display the recommended products for TurboTax, TaxAct, H&R Block at Home, and CompleteTax with prices and reviews.

    Hope that helps!
